Even if the holiday is not in a foreign country, it is still a good idea to take a holiday first aid kit with you. The holiday destination does, of course, play a role in what to take and what not to take with you.

Such a kit should include medication that is taken on a regular basis such as thyroxine, the pill, blood pressure tablets, and other medicine that is only available on prescription. It is always best to check with your GP or ask at the pharmacy what you might need in addition to the above-mentioned medicine. In addition to prescribed medication, it is also a good idea to include the following: OTC medicine for the treatment of diarrhoea; electrolytes to replace loss of minerals from diarrhoea; antihistamine for allergies and insect bites; an OTC stimulant relaxant preparation for travel constipation; and, painkillers which help to relieve pain and fever symptoms.
