Sensitive teeth

Quite a high proportion of people suffer sudden pain while eating ice cream or drinking very hot or cold drinks. This sensitivity may be caused by damaged enamel. This material, which protects the outer surface of the teeth, is the hardest substance in the human body.

This protective layer is subject to a lot of abuse: incorrect oral hygiene, abrasive toothpaste, bad eating habits and lack of dental treatment. Alarmingly high percentages of children and adults have tooth decay – in spite of the advances in dental care and technology in recent years. One of the main causes for this is the change in eating habits: in the past we had three meals a day, today we eat several smaller meals divided over the course of the day. This is considered to be healthy on the one hand but may be detrimental to our teeth on the other. 08/08
