Milder symptoms of varicose veins are aching and itching legs, and swollen ankles. The more severe symptoms, which arise from the complications of varicose veins and incorrect or a complete lack of treatment, are thrombophlebitis, bleeding of surface veins, and chronic venous insufficiency (CVI). Long-term studies have proven and supported the efficacy of flavonoids.
These substances, also known as flavones, are pigments which give plants their characteristic colours ranging from red to yellow. They are contained, e.g., in lemons and grapes. There are also various preparations containing flavonoids. They are thought to increase venous tone, improve lymphatic drainage and reduce capillary leakage. If varicose veins are a problem, those concerned very often consult their local pharmacy because they are interested in competent advice. 05/08
